Diabetes – What you need to know to understand and manage diabetes for you and your family.
Diabetes affects tens of millions of people in the United States and more worldwide. There are many common sense ways to live well while managing this health problem. It is important for your health and your family’s health for you to understand how glucose (sugar) is managed and what can go wrong to cause diabetes. In this course we will discuss the lifestyle issues and medical diagnostics and therapies that are important to understanding diabetes and how it can impact you or your family.

This course is designed for all who are interested in learning about how glucose (sugar) is managed by our bodies and what can happen to make this go wrong to cause diabetes to develop. It will be particularly useful for:
- Those who have diabetes.
- People with family history of diabetes.
- People with risk factors for diabetes.
- Those taking care of family members with diabetes.
- Providers in the healthcare system wanting their patients to learn more about this disease process.
- Insurance providers wanting their clientele to be educated about their diabetes so that they can be more proactive in their care.
We provide up to date information regarding diabetes diagnosis, management and treatment. We also provide guidance in lifestyle choices and changes that will be useful to all who wish to live life in a healthy and positive fashion.
Our presentation style makes use of text, conversational description and links to sites that can provide further video and graphic information. We present this information in a manner that is easy to understand so that patients can work with their providers to make the best choices possible with full informed consent.
By the end of this course you will:
- Understand normal glucose metabolism.
- Recognize how the different types of diabetes develop
- Be able to engage in positive lifestyle changes to manage your diabetes.
- Know how diabetes is diagnosed.
- Recognize the common medicines and interventions that are used for treatment of diabetes.

How is this course different from most information you get online?
Much of the content you find on the web is either very general or not written for the lay person. We explain medical concepts in an accessible way, asking the questions we feel you would ask. More importantly, we provide a venue for you to ask specific questions about your personal situation. We’ll make sure you receive the information in a clear and meaningful way.
Course Work
The course is structured with outlines of the material to be covered in 5 sections. Each outline will contain links to images, audio and video to assist in gaining appropriate comprehension of cardiac function and coronary artery disease.

It is not necessary to purchase any additional materials for this course. In order to fully enjoy the benefits of taking this course, it is recommended that you have:

- Audio listening capability on your computer

Following registration for the course, you’ll have access to Lesson 1 materials. Following completion of each lesson you will have access to the next lesson, in sequence, through the completion of the course.
