What is the best way to be kept informed of new course offerings?
How much do these courses cost? It’s important to understand that New Millennium wants to complement the offerings of community education-based courses. As a result, you can expect our course costs to be in the same ballpark as your local community education offerings.
How are the courses offered? How do I take them? What is the procedure? The easiest way to answer this question is to take a specific example. Let’s imagine you’re enrolled in a two-week course that requires four hours of activity. This is how it would work: you sign up for the course and you note the date when the course will be opened. Prior to that you’ll have had the opportunity to test your equipment to make sure everything works. Ok, so you get access to the material, and it takes you roughly an hour to complete over the week. You also have the opportunity to interact with classmates and the teacher via a blog or forum over that week. At the beginning of the second week, a teleconference is scheduled where you can talk with your teacher and other students. You can also participate via a webinar type format if you prefer that to the phone. If you miss the live session, you can listen to a recording of the session. Then, you’re given another week’s worth of material to study and discuss with your teacher and other students. At the end of the second week, there is again a live teleconference to answer questions, discuss issues and conclude the course. You’re then given a certain period of time in which you can download anything that you’ve missed. The procedure is about the same for longer courses, – maybe with some minor variations.
Can I suggest courses to be offered? Absolutely! We encourage you to suggest courses. We’ll post them and we’ll ask others to vote. We’ll find teachers to teach the courses. Really, the whole idea of New Millennium Education is to respond to the needs of the community. We want to hear what you want.
Can I influence what is taught in the course? Yes. Every course will have an associated launch period before it’s open for registration. During that time, we’ll be attracting new members to the community, putting the finishing touches to the course, and setting the stage for registration. Also during this time, we’ll ask for input from the community about the course. This input will be incorporated into the course to make sure we’re hitting the topics of greatest interest to the community.
Why do you offer some weird or unusual courses? First of all, please understand what we’re about here. We really want to take advantage of the power of the Internet to offer courses from and to people all over the world. We’re not interested in competing with colleges, or even with standard community education program offerings. In fact, we want to work with community education programs to complement their programs and offer courses they would not offer, because the courses are so specialized or because there are so few students in their particular communities that would be interested. It will be so cool to offer highly unusual, entertaining, relevant, and provocative courses that you won’t find anywhere else. We want people to be interested in the courses that New Millennium Education offers even if they don’t intend to take the course. I want people to sign up for the newsletters just to see what crazy courses we’re offering. We’ll highlight these courses in our regular blog and podcasts. It’s time to use the Internet, not just to make education more convenient, but to make possible the type of education that was previously simply unavailable.
If I take a course, and I really like it, is there any way I can earn a commission or referral fee by recommending it to my friends? If so, how much can I make?
Yes, if you have a blog or Facebook page or any other kind of list that you can use to attract new students, you can become a New Millennium Education student affiliate. We’ll give you a link you can put on your webpage, so when new students click on that link to register, you’re credited with the registration, and you receive a commission. If you’re in the business of Internet marketing, we are very happy to establish a joint venture partner affiliate relationship with a different commission fee. To get more details on this program, please submit your name and e-mail address to receive news about NME.
What are the qualifications of your teachers? For every course, we publish the relevant experience and expertise of the teachers. Credentials are important, but sometimes experience is far more important than formal credentials. We have the flexibility of finding and training the very best teachers, regardless of their formal education.
How do I know if a teacher is good? At the end of every course, students are asked to submit an evaluation. A rating summary is published along with the course for each teacher, so you can identify our stars.
If I’m not satisfied, can I get my money back? If you’ve completed 50% or less of the course, and you are not satisfied, you can receive a complete refund.
What is the advantage of these courses over other online courses that I’ve seen?
With many other programs, you’re basically given a catalog full of course descriptions and registration dates. That’s usually all the information you get. New Millennium Education insists on developing a community before a course is launched. You will get to know the instructor and maybe even some of your fellow students before you even register for the course. It’s important to establish trust in the instructor and confidence in his or her competence so that you’re confident the course is a wise investment. The other advantage of this approach is that your input is included in the design or conduct of the course, and you might even establish a great rapport with some of your fellow course students before you even sign up.
How can I be sure these courses are of high quality? Well, I’ve talked about the rating system. I also want to point out that it is extremely important to us that students know the detailed course objectives before they begin the course. The detailed course objectives indicate what students should be able to do or accomplish upon completion of the course. We’ve worked in postsecondary education for many years, and while the New Millennium courses are not accredited courses leading to degrees or diplomas, we follow the same rigorous course design and assessment model in ensuring the courses are of the highest quality.
How can I find out exactly what’s covered in a course? Each course that’s offered will have a detailed syllabus, listing the specific course objectives on our webpage.
Can I earn a degree using these courses? No. These courses are not part of a curriculum leading to a degree. They are similar to community education courses in that regard.
Can I earn other credentials by taking this course? Well, that depends. You can request a certificate of completion for any course you take. Along with the detailed course description information, this certificate may be sufficient to qualify you toward your goal. If the course itself is geared toward earning a credential, quiz and examination learning activities will be included in the course to enable the instructor to assign you a grade. However, this is likely to be the exception, rather than the rule.
Can these courses be transferred into my degree program? It is not likely, although that decision is up to the institution into which you wish to transfer.
Will I receive a certificate of completion? You may request a certificate of completion for any course you take.
What if I don’t have time to finish? If you find you cannot complete the course, you can apply for a credit that will allow you to retake the course one time.
Will I be required to buy a textbook? No. All of the course materials are original and authored by the instructor. It’s likely you will end up with a set of course notes rather than a textbook.
How do I know if my computer system is capable of performing all the interactive features of the courses? We provide a sample course with which you can test your equipment.
Are these courses “computer instructed” or is there an actual person responsible for teaching the course and interacting with students? All of our courses are led by qualified instructors who interact with students and moderate discussion among the students.
Do I have to take a certain course at a certain time or from a certain location?
As explained above, there are components of the course, which are offered live, but they’re always recorded. If you miss a session, you can catch up on it later by listening to the recording. The other components of the course are asynchronous, meaning that you can participate when it is convenient for you within the scheduled week. You’re expected to keep up from week to week. The material is distributed week by week.
What is the best way to be kept informed of new course offerings? The best way to be kept informed is to fill out the name and e-mail information in the box on the right.
